TRACE Adventure was born from a simple idea — the GPS track left behind after an adventure tells a story that's worth keeping.
Founded in New Zealand by a mapmaker with a love of the outdoors, trail running and exploring wild places, TRACE brings together a passion for maps and adventure to create something more meaningful than a standard route map or screenshot from a fitness app.
We wanted to create something you could put on the wall and look back on years later — a record of not just where you went, but the adventure behind it.
Created individually
Every TRACE is individually created.
We take the GPS data from the route you actually travelled and combine it with detailed satellite imagery, terrain, your activity statistics and your own photos to create a map unique to your adventure.
For race maps, your GPS data can also be used to colour the route by pace, showing not just where you went, but how your race unfolded along the way.
TRACE isn't about dropping a generic route onto a template and automatically sending it out. Each map is individually worked on, bringing together the route, imagery, photos and layout to tell the story of that particular adventure.

The same attention to detail goes into the finished product.
TRACE maps are professionally printed in New Zealand and finished with a premium matte laminate, giving the finished map a substantial feel while providing added durability and long-lasting protection.
Our physical maps are deliberately produced at large format. Race maps are printed at A2 (420 × 594 mm), while Te Araroa maps are produced at an impressive A0 (841 × 1189 mm) — giving the route, satellite imagery, photographs and details the space they need to make an impact.
From the GPS data and satellite imagery through to the final laminated print, every element is considered to create something worthy of the adventure behind it — and worthy of a place on your wall.
